True Honesty

Honesty certainly is the one thing we’d like to say we are, but it’s when we are alone, when our minds refuse to shutdown, that we find ourselves at odds with reality. Being honest is rare because it goes against who we are and who we think we are. It’s when those two worlds collide that we break. Breaking is indeed a good thing, even though while we break we are miserable. Unfortunately, since being broken is painful, most people would rather fight the internal battle wanting others to believe who they think they are is who they really are.  It’s why so many people are caught in this deception of being fake.

No one wants to be fake. It is just another lie we tell ourselves that we are real, when in fact, if we are not honest, we certainly are fake. Our world will crumble if we encounter several personality traits that are at odds with ourselves—we panic—often saying and doing irrational things that we may never “normally” consider. However, if we allow the internal battle to break us, we emerge from that desolate place a better version of who we were before. We truly become more honest with ourselves, which from that honesty comes the honesty we share with those around us.

We lie. We lie to ourselves and to those around us. But who dare questions that lie? We deceive ourselves and fight like hell to keep the facade. It’s a never ending battle of self-delusion. It’s not until someone with enough love and strength confronts us that we (if we are honest), will accept the rebuke and stop with the lies. But really, who is that humble to accept being cornered? Very few. Proverbs 12:1 says something so honest that only a fool would ignore it. It says, “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.” Who can be so blunt? Very few. Honesty is something only a handful of us have.

Accept rebuke. Embrace it. When you feel the sting—cry some and move forward. Honesty is SO rare that when someone actuallly hears it—they question it. They question their own reality. And when someone questions their own reality, you know something much more sinister is going on, because when enough people question their own reality—society crumbles. Do you want to be the part that crumbles? Or would you rather be honest? I’d rather be honest. Who cares what other think of you. Stand up. Straight up and be honest.
